Information

Accessibility

SCI targets WCAG 2.2 AA and treats readable scientific content, keyboard operation, reduced motion, and resilient layouts as launch requirements.

Accessibility features

  • semantic landmarks and heading order;
  • a visible skip link and keyboard-operable navigation;
  • strong focus indicators on dark and light surfaces;
  • complete content without JavaScript, images, hover, or motion;
  • system reduced-motion support plus a manual motion control;
  • responsive reading at 320 CSS pixels and 200% zoom;
  • text labels for evidence and publication state rather than color alone.

Scientific content

Tables retain headers and can scroll within the viewport. DOI text remains selectable. Subscripts, superscripts, symbols, and Greek characters should remain readable and copyable. Decorative AI artwork uses empty alternative text because it conveys no scientific evidence.

Testing

The release process includes automated browser and Axe checks plus manual keyboard, zoom, reduced-motion, forced-colors, and screen-reader review. Automated tests cannot establish conformance alone.
